Tides play an important role in fish behavioral patterns.  Most game fish tend to feed when the tide is moving.  Predator Fish use the tidal currents to help them find and capture prey.  Baitfish, including crabs shrimp and other organisms, are more vulnerable when the water is moving as they struggle against tidal currents.  Some fish, like the flounder, wait for the tidal currents to bring the food to them as they hide in the sand.

Tides also effect water temperatures.  Incoming tides bring cool ocean water into the bay, while outgoing tides provide warmer water that could wash bait out of the estuaries into the main creek channels.  For this reason, outgoing tides are usually more productive in the early and latter part of the season for some inshore species.
